Spring Snow

DSC_4898

Hello again. Its been a lonnng time since I shot a personal style post. Feeling a little bit rusty, please bear with me….Welcome to spring. Though you wouldn’t know it considering there are at least a couple of inches of fresh snow on the ground. March is a little tardy on the whole ‘out like a lion’ thing… no hard feelings, I chose to use this (hopefully) final cold front to stretch some legs on a couple of my winter coats which didn’t see a lot of sidewalk time this year. Silver linings, as they say.

This black, fur lined beauty was acquired late in the season. Better late and fur lined than never, I always say… Of course it was a steal foraged on a thrifting outing. I know fur can be a very touchy subject. I prefer not to purchase new furs myself, however I find it damn near impossible to pass up a vintage option like this…no sense having such beauty go to waste when it can be so deeply loved and cared for.

The belt I have on, did not accompany this coat, sadly its original is forever lost. No matter, I love mixing up my belts with my coats, in fact I prefer it. I’ve talked about this on the blog before, its such an easy way to make an old coat look new and interesting again (Emmanuel Alt does it best, as far as I’m concerned).

This little hat I have on has been a winter season staple for me, I get complements on it almost every time I’m out. I love the sporty yet completely chic look of it. It works as well on dog walks down the beach in yoga pants and Sorel boots as it works with a great pair of ankle boot heels, and a killer statement coat.

Despite the current cold, I am feeling that spring energy, starting fresh and new beginnings. I’m very excited and hopeful for what the spring season brings. I have some big plans for this little blog of mine. Up until recently, the blog and my Etsy shop have been a little hobby for which I loved, but had limited time for. I’m looking forward to giving these endeavors a lot more of my time, all of my love, and hopefully putting more of myself and my experiences (both sartorial and otherwise) onto these pages, stay tuned. Also, if you are a vintage junky like me, keep an eye on my shop over on Etsy, I’ve got some serious sartorial swag lined up for the shop….do people still say swag? I dunno.. in any event, my life is all about finding and sharing those special pieces.

More importantly I’ll also be styling almost all of the pieces in the shop into looks that will hopefully inspire my fellow style mavens to create modern, interesting, affordable looks worthy of even the finest street style lens.

Here’s to spring, starting fresh, and going for it.

The Find.

Toronto Style Blogger Red Trench Style Blog 1

Just a quick post on this beautiful, sunny Sunday. Spring time in Toronto is a roller-coaster ride of weather. I am still finding mornings and evenings a little bit chilly, so I love playing with different light jacket looks. One of my favourite ways of doing this is throwing a belt over old jackets, it instantly makes any old jacket feel new again.

I scooped up this amazing vintage belt the other day at my favourite local thrift shop. I have no idea where its from, as its completely label-less and unmarked. It always thrills me to find great items that show no indication of where they have been, it makes the mystique of the find all the more interesting…

Flare.

Recently, I had the pleasure to swing by The Everyday Pop-Up, for The Everyday presents: The Bloggers Tea event, to shop the vendors and enjoy an afternoon of fashion and refreshments. The shop itself is a sweet little space, a tiny dog rested happily in the corner. But more importantly were the other corners, filled with phenomenal vintage pieces, vintage jewellery, and little treasures. I was blown away by the selection of truly unique vintage items…even now writing this, I have pangs of regret for the pieces left behind…I did manage to score an amazing color blocked parlour dress for myself however, from the vendor Wild Thing Vintage (to be featured in a later post)…I highly recommend stopping by The Everyday, to score that vintage item missing from your life…

Speaking of looks from the past…I was a young teenager the last time I wore a pair of flares. When I was in middle school, every girl who was any girl was rocking the look. I remember begging my Mum to take me to Siblings, or LaSenza Girl, to buy these amazing ‘new’ jeans…the ones that hug the hips and thigh, and taper away from the knee to perfectly cover my platform sandals. So imagine my glee, when this look started popping up again. First on Pinterest, here and there. Then storming the runways of Tom Ford and Derek Lam…and of course the Coachella renditions

Lucky for me, I’ve had this pair of Guess flares tucked away, for just such a second (or third?) coming. The look is so simple, so streamlined, so tall…even when you are not. It makes me wonder why this silhouette would disappear. They say in fashion what goes around comes around…this is one such case I am very happy to revisit…

The Classic Trench.

When I think about what items would make up a perfectly curated wardrobe, a classic trench coat goes straight to the top of my list. It’s one of those special pieces that will transcend time and trends; a coat that can be thrown over just about any look, and work. (see; Breakfast at Tiffany’s, scene where Holly is out in the rain looking for Cat…Classic Trench Perfection)…

I recently acquired this Zara trench after many, many hours of scouring my favourite online shopping sites. I loved all the classic elements of this one; double breasted, tie at the waist and falls to about mid-thigh (perfect length for those of us who are height-challenged)…

I am also happy to share that I have officially joined the ‘Lob Mob’. I have been wanting to make the big cut for a long time, and in the spirit of spring and change, I made the leap! I’m assuming I will be spending an unsavoury amount of time going through Youtube ‘how to style a lob’ tutorials…

Happy Easter!
